Getting locked out of your home or car is stressful — but panicking (or forcing a window) usually makes it worse and more expensive. Before you do anything drastic, work calmly through these five steps.
It sounds obvious, but in the rush people forget the back door, a garage entry, or an unlatched window. Do a full, calm loop of the property before assuming you’re truly locked out.
Trying to “jiggle” a cylinder with a screwdriver or shoulder-barge a door almost always causes damage that costs far more than the lockout itself. A professional non-destructive entry is quicker and cheaper.
Some tenancy agreements, building management offices, or car breakdown memberships include lockout help. A quick call can occasionally save you the visit entirely.
Look for a licensed locksmith who gives a clear price on the phone and can reach you fast. In Dubai we typically arrive in 30–45 minutes and open the door without damage.
Once you’re back in, cut a spare key, leave one with someone you trust, or consider a keypad smart lock so a dead battery or lost key never locks you out again.
